RUSHING RAVINES

Get ready to rock-out with our two gorge -ous superstars in Wörschach and Donnersbach.

Water Rock ’n’ roll!

RUSHING and WILD, the water channels of Wörschach and Donnersbach Gorge find their way through the narrow gorges into the valley.

The thundering water shapes the face of these awe-inspiring ‘rock stars’. Over thousands of years, the water has never ceased to delve deeper into the rock faces…and it continues to form them today. It is hard to believe that over 130 years ago, traders would travel across this land with their horse-drawn carriages and lumberjacks would work painstakingly, using the power of the water to bring the wooden logs down into the valley. THESE DAYS YOU CAN CONQUER THE CANYONS, merely for your own pleasure and for the simple joy of being in nature!

GASTHOF LEITNER

T 03683/22 67

WALKING TIME: 2 HOURS 15 MINUTES

ASCENT: 212 METRES

WHAT YOU NEED: STURDY SHOES.

Are you ready for thousands of calming sensations?

Then tie your laces tightly, pack your water bottle and wander off with a free spirit. Come rain or shine!

It’s best to start off at GASTHOF LEITNER and then follow the Donnersbach river upstream until 10 minutes after entering the gorge you start to go down the steps. From this point, the trail leads you through FORESTS AND FIELDS, past broad sandbanks, all the way to a LUMBERJACK’S CABIN (the exterior is made out of tree bark by the way) and the model of a Trift Rake (a drift used for transporting floating wood that could be found here until the 1960s.)

In the middle of this NATURAL MONUMENT, everything is allowed to remain just as nature intends it. Fill your WATER BOTTLE up again with plentiful clear water at the SPRING, before continuing your hike along the sometimes soft, and sometimes stony or root-covered trails. Let those aromatic scents encompass you; a composition of moist moss, wood sorrel and forest strawberries!

Take a deep breath and a long inner pause.

Then a glance upwards, and the yellow lichen moss shines down from the crags. Breathtaking! And ahead, to the left, the wonderment continues: the water rushes down off the ROCKS. Inhale this incomparable FRESHNESS slowly and let the tiny sprays of water tickle your nose. Thousands of calming sensations!

Over footbridges and steps, the trail continues to the GORGE-CLIMB RESTING SPOT. Simply sit down and have a daydream or have a sip of water. Through the narrow ROCK TUNNEL(breathe in) the trail continues, ascending gradually until you reach a clearing (with a bench ready and waiting to provide another perfect resting point). The leisurely stroll continues through the meadows until you reach the street.

Once you have crossed the street, a forest trail will lead you all the way back to the village. Lean back and let your SOUL really RELAX as you enjoy walking past the many beautiful farms, each with their own tales to tell.
